launching GM jobs is too slow

Works for me on port 2401.  Not sure why you seem to want to
connect to 2402.

    baa$ grep pserver /etc/services 
    cvspserver      2401/tcp        # CVS client/server operations

By the way, I edited the docs to remove the login step as it seems
superfluous.  And we'll be switching to svn sometime soon too so
this will become moot.

I don't think you'll find anything to fix your GM issues in the CVS,
however, but maybe the same fixes for IB scaling at 8000 tasks
should be applied to GM as well.  I'll give some thought to your
other mails soon.
